RIP Tal, I'll always remember you x

Fury, am thinking about you x

My head is just full of memories and I just don't know what to say. I wish I'd seen you more lately, I wish I could have made it to your handfasting. I wish I'd gone to Whitby for even just the day this time. You'll be missed :(

I'm going to be in York from Wed 10-Sat 13 next week, and was wondering if anyone in the area could give me some ideas of anything that might be going on to entertain us during that time? Clubs, theatres, good pubs and restaurants...that kinda thing :)

New Years Eve [25 Nov 2003|02:35pm]
I spent most of last night being mocked by my boyfriend for celebrating New Years Eve in our family's traditional way. He reckons nobody else does it, has no idea why we do it and declares it completely sexist. He also showed me his baffled face.

Anyway, I'll write what we do, and you lot can help solve my argument. I had just assumed everyone celebrated it this way, and never questioned it, but now I'm curious.

At about five to midnight, we throw all the menfolk out of the house and into the garden. The women then count down to midnight and join arms to sing Auld Lan Syn (sp?). We then let the men back in, but the first man through the door must be the darkest, tallest one, who is seen as letting the new year in. The women then proceed to give each man a silver coin and a kiss.

So...do you do that? If not, what do you do? And does anyone have any ideas as to where our particular ritual might have originated from?

Indulge me... [18 Aug 2003|03:38pm]
There's a lot to think about at the moment, to say the least. Take my mind off it all for a bit, will you? ;)

I've fancied doing this meme for a while, what with it being one of the least brainless doing the rounds at the moment.

Ask me five questions about anything, I'll answer them and ask you five of my own...

Word of advice.

Never go and see the midnight showing of Darkness Falls, no matter how good an idea it seems at the time.

STAY IN THE LIGHT.

Mooched into Stockton this afternoon, for no particular reason. Stockton, for those who don't know, is Middlesbrough's slightly retarded, more inbred and excessively more grim identical twin, located some three miles away.

There is an attempt at an indoor market in the centre of the 'town'. Only, it's all closed. Apart from a cheap carpet stall and a crazy little place with its walls lined by all the cult/crap/illegal videos and books you could ever, ever desire. My little eyes lit up.

I was greeted by a slightly over enthusiastic geordie shouting 'Man! Your hair! It's so FLY, girl!'. Followed by irregular outbursts along the lines of 'You hype up that hair!' and 'You can have discount on anything, cos of your wap hair!'.

Slightly scared, yet secretly quite pleased, I hid in the cult horror section. The geordie followed me, and somehow led me into a conversation about movies and cult classics, and horror - during which I decided I had a new best friend. If only because he has 2036 videos, I'm only up to 500 or so and could do with delving into a collection like his.

So, yeah, we bonded over a mutual fascination with gore, and after making me promise I wasn't a cop, he showed me all the under the counter videos, and the big metal bar they use to hit people with. Then he told me about all the times he's been shot and stabbed.

And now I have a job! Well, providing his partner agrees to take me on, too. Hooray! Soon my speech will consist entirely of cult movie quotes and I can develop that 'small book shop staff' mentality I've always wanted to have.

Ah, I do hope they take me on. It will defeat my boredom and allow me to indulge in two of my greatest obsessions, in a nice, grotty, slightly illegal setting.

[ music | Gary Jules - Mad World ]

I have been awake since 6am. I think the world has gone topsy turvy. Not sure I like this morning lark - there's not much on the TV, for starters. Well, apart from retro versions of Saved by the Bell and Neighbours, that is.

Fun night last night. We all decided to do something different and so, piled into my little car and headed off to a comedy night in Hartlepool. We were treated to Britain's Only Deaf Comedian, a man obsessed with pleasuring himself and some sarky Cockney git. All very amusing, especially the parts when we got to watch the Cockney guy squirm in the face of our collective North-Easterness. 'You'll have to explain that heckle to me, I forgot to bring along my Drunk Northern phrase book'.

And also, I helped my lovely friend Ste pull a nice laydee. So proud. I say I helped him pull, but in reality, I just provided him with two high quality, guaranteed-to-work chat up lines. 'So, how *you* doin'?' and 'My, that's a smashing blouse'.

The world is full of odd noises. Perhaps it's always like this and I just haven't noticed, what with being asleep and all.

It's Alex's first day at work today. I made him tea and toast and sent him off with a kiss. It's all very domesticated. I really don't know what's happening to me. Sickening, it really is.

And now, I shall feed the warbling kitty cats and write to my prisoner friend, Matt.

Good morning, friends!

An update, of sorts [02 Apr 2003|03:59pm]

[ music | Megadeth - Sweating Bullets ]

So, yeah, I've been meaning to start using this thing again, but never quite seem to get round to it. I'm either too busy Doing Stuff to write about it, or living too mundane an existence to warrant any ramblings on the subject.

Aaanyway. I failed my driving test. Again. I'm fully aware that most of you reading this will now be breathing vast sighs of relief, but y'know, I'm fairly gutted.

Such minor mistakes, too. I took 3 corners too widely. Two, and I'd have been on the roads right now. Three, and I'm resigned to begging for another test date.

Still, I should do it next time. If I don't, there will be blood spilled.

To ease myself back into LJ gently, a survey, stolen from a multitude of people... )

[ music | The Doors - Love Me Two Times ]

By the way of a few small comments, someone tonight helped me realise why it is I feel I'm growing away from the goth social scene so much.

The few things I still appreciate about the scene were kicked sharply in the teeth by a harsh reminder of the other side of it. The pretention, the small mindedness, the utter elitism that some people seem to revel in.

All that was applied with the assistance of a huge generalisation in the direction of people I know and like, by someone almost entirely clueless as to who they were insulting.

And it really fucking incensed me.

Mostly because I thought we were grown ups now. Games like that have no place in my life, and I guess sometimes I forget just how much some people like to place themselves and their chosen subculture above others.

I think I'll just stick to where I'm happiest. In clubs where nobody gives a shit how you're dressed, or where you're from or what music you like. Places where people are more interested in enjoying themselves than posing and looking down on the rest of the crowd with their noses in the air.

Funny how I've only ever seen an abundance of that attitude in crowds like that which was so easily insulted tonight...

Ooh, a good day! About bloody time ;)

Things are finally clicking into place as regards the gig on Friday. Still as nervous as I always am, but that's par for the course, I guess. Just got to hope and pray (~o~...that you'll wake some day back in your own world...~o~) that people actually show up!

Apart from that, I'm looking forward to it. It's the first gig I've put on since, oooh, June this year. And despite all the hassle and stress and overall craziness that always surrounds promoting gigs, I missed it.

Chaos Engine and Arkam Asylum, Liberty's in the Town, M'bro. £5 on the door. Just in case I haven't spammed you personally already ;)

Sneaky plans are afoot for my birthday celebrations this year. I am altogether *too* excited about this. 51 days to go, and I already nearly killed myself by spinning too fast on my Villain Chair in excitement.

Should all go well, the weekend of my birthday - Dec 29th for those who want to ship gifts out early ;) - will contain a large amount of cockrock worship. We're in negotiations with Bad Obsession (www.badobsession.co.uk), a mighty fine GnR tribute band, and hopefully they'll play for us alongside a good few hours of quality rawk n rolllll decadence.

You're all welcome to come. Tight leather pants and bandanas are not compulsory, but would be uh, appreciated ;)

Can't wait!

It's 5.30 in the morning. Instead of doing anything sane, I am ebaying for glass eyes. The results disturb me.

Also of note, a glass eye moulder in Ebay UK.

It's almost Christmas. Buy one for your nearest and dearest.

Ok, feeling weird after a strange and surreal weekend. There are photos up at the usual place: http://midnightmoon.deus.org.uk/gallery

Those of you who wish to, fill in this survey - I'm feeling self indulgent, and it's not often I post them, so no whining :)

01. Describe me using three or less words.
02. If you could spend a day with me, what would we do?
03. Have we ever gotten in a fight?
04. Have you ever dreamt of me? If so, tell me about it.
05. If you could give me a present, what would it be?
06. Would you hug me?
07. Do you trust me?
08. Do you know something about me that no one else knows?
09. What month is my birthday? (Without looking at my LJ profile! Don't cheat!)
10. Do you know how old I am? (Same as above... Don't cheat!)
11. Anything you wanted to tell me but never got a chance to?
